Comparison Is A Distorted Mirror!

When we use comparison as a way to judge ourself or others it is often from a starting point of being disadvantaged. A point of deficit, and from that perspective we then try to find a person or point that brings us into balance or worth or “sameness.” Which of course, doesn’t exist. Therefore, is never found. Leaving you disappointed in yourself.

Comparison is a distorted mirror! It never reveals the truth of who you are.

We regularly use this perspective or view, to judge and assess things in the bible to. But if we use the benchmark that we are all uniquely created, how then do we compare ourself against someone who is also uniquely created? A one off. You can’t. Another person can never be your template or standard.

As the saying goes – when God made you he broke the mould!

I considered further comparisons we make regarding God’s gifts and God’s blessings. Even sins but that’s whole other topic.

It’s interesting when God created space, earth and all its contents he used the same measure ‘and it was good’ in Genesis 1. Nothing received a greater or lesser judgement. For everything was wonderfully made in his eyes. Everything had a part, a place and purpose in creation. Therefore, everything had it’s worth and value and the fact that it was created defined its importance to exist. It existed that was enough!

There are no underdogs in heaven!

What we do not understand we try to define through our own limited words and knowledge. One of the ways we do this is through a judgement process that starts from a point of less. A position that places us always on the back foot, and no matter what you do, it cannot be evened out. Unless you lash out with words that deconstruct or attack what you are comparing yourself to. This is when ‘the critic’ emerges using words that are harsh, cynical and barbed, but calls it ‘truth’ in order to justify itself.

This is how the enemy gets in and uses comparison as a means or tool to destroy us.

But David understood God and heaven. He understood that what we measured as the least of God, the smallest of positions in heaven had more value than the best of things on this earth without God.

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Psalm 84:10 KJVAAE

Our truth does not lie in comparing ourselves or our lives to others. But hearing directly from God for our own lives. For us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling means to understand who we are in Christ? What are our unique gifts and talents and how do we use them in a way that pleases God?

If you have found yourself the victim of someone else’s harsh critique thus week. Or you have been comparing yourself to others and ended up feeling low, dissapointed or a failure. Know that this is not how The Father sees us. Nor does he measure us against others.

4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another

Galatians 6

His expectations of us is based on what he created us for and he works with us to this end.

I pray the Spirit of comparison is broken off of your life and any negative thoughts or feelings are removed through His Holy Spirit.

For you a uniquely and perfectly made by the Fathers hand.

May the blessings of God enrich your life and his love fill your soul and spirit.

Until the next post remain blessed.

Gloria
